This course carefully balances theory with applications, offers clear definitions, simplified notation and techniques of statistical analysis. In this introduction, we will briefly discuss those elementary statistical concepts that provide the necessary foundations for more specialized expertise in any area of statistical data analysis. The presentation covers the mathematical laws of random phenomena, including discrete and continuous random variables, expectation and variance, and common probability distributions such as the binomial and normal distributions. Main statistical concepts considered are point and interval estimates, hypothesis testing, and various statistical tests: z, t, F, chi-square.

This course designed for statisticians, biostatisticians, students, and research professionals in the biological and social sciences, engineering, and technology.
